RACQUET SPORTS

Sudley Club Racquet Sports Facilities and Program

Sudley Swim & Racquet Club is a Members Only facility with four pickleball courts and six tennis courts, including the ONLY four Har-Tru courts in Prince William County and the newly renovated hard courts for both tennis and pickleball.  Sudley Club offers Junior and Adult Tennis and Pickleball programs for beginner, intermediate, and advanced players.  There are private or group lessons for tennis and pickleball (for members and non-members) with our on-staff tennis pro, JD Almond. There are several tennis and pickleball social events throughout the season.  If you are into racquet sports there is no better place in Prince William County to get your game on!  For more details on our Tennis program, check out the information below...

Court Reservations

Reserve a tennis or pickleball court in advance to ensure you have a court to play on.  Reservations can be made 24-hours in advance.  Members in good standing may only have ONE reservation per day.  When making a reservation, all names of members playing must be given.  Singles reservations and doubles reservations are for 1.5 hours.

Proper  Shoes  for  Tennis  at  Sudley

ALL players, including Junior Tennis players, must wear smooth-soled non-marking tennis shoes on all courts (Courts #1-6).  No cross-trainers are allowed on ANY court!

Ball  Machine

We have a great ball machine for current members to use (exclusively on Court #6 due to electricity access).  Reserving the ball machine is much like reserving a tennis court.  Please call the canteen and request to reserve Court 6 with the ball machine.  The following Additional Requirements to note:  (1) Children 16 and under require Parental/Adult supervision;  (2) A Canteen worker will assist with ball machine set-up;  (3)  All balls must be picked up and returned to storage with the machine after use.

Weather  Closures

We often try to find out if “Acts of God” weather events have affected court conditions and whether or not we can play tennis (on the hard courts or clay courts).  The General Manager determines if the courts are playable, and once determined, the information is passed to the workers in the Canteen.

Clay Court  Maintenance

The Har-Tru courts are groomed twice daily.  Morning maintenance is between the hours of 6:00-9:00 am.  Maintenance consists of brushing, watering, and rolling.  Afternoon maintenance consists of watering and brushing between 2:00-4:00 pm.  Tennis play CANNOT interrupt scheduled court grooming.  Please understand that our staff must perform regular daily maintenance to keep the courts in their usual excellent condition!!!

Pickleball Courts

With the renovation of the hard courts, we have added 4 pickleball courts to the two-court tennis surface.   These pickleball courts are reserved much like reserving a tennis court; however, one must be aware of the court usage with lessons (junior tennis programs and lessons by our Pro) because they do take residence.

Court  Lights

Please be aware that the last person leaving the courts must  TURN THE LIGHTS OFF,  even if members remain to socialize on the pavilions.  The switch must be placed in the down position, or lights will automatically come back on at 6:00 am.

NOTE: Be sure to switch off the lights upon completion of play.

What is my Playing Rating?

If a member were to register for an Intra-Club League, how do they decide "which one?" The answer to this question is essential as it can directly affect your enjoyment of Sudley's racquet sports offerings and affect the enjoyment of your fellow players.  After all, a new player to the game probably prefers not to oppose Advanced players, just as advanced players generally would not seek beginner competition.  It's nothing personal; it's merely a function of doing the best job possible to group our players based on an objective determination of "skill level."

For this reason, we encourage all adult players to determine their self-rating but don't let this worry you because it's straightforward.  To help you out, we encourage Sudley members to review the Self-Rating Guidelines available at the bottom of this page.
